History in Nigeria, Today, February 2nd.

      
         On this day in 1895, Consul-general Claude Maxwell MacDonald received letter from King Koko offering to release hostages in exchange for redress of grievances against the Company. This request was declined.

Head of State enlisted in the Nigerian Army was born.

         More so, he seized power in the ensuing chaos following the January 15, 1966 military coup, serving as the Nigerian Head of State from 16 January 1966 until his murder on 29 July 1966 by a group of mutinous Northern army soldiers who revolted against his government in what was popularly called the July Counter Coup.

        In Lagos, 2nd February,2002, Nigeria, fight broke out between militants of the Yoruba and Hausa tribes. At least 55 people were killed over the next 2 days as fighting spread…


        Furthermore, on the 2nd of February in 2003, a powerful explosion destroyed a bank and dozens of apartments above it on Lagos Island, and relief workers reported at least 46 killed and many more trapped.
