The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) On Thursday, December 17, revealed that no fewer than three million Nigerians were illegally living in the United Kingdom.

He explained that besides the 48 Nigerians deported to the country from the UK last week, there was no further plan to deport more Nigerians.

According to him, those deported were found guilty of offences inimical to the laws of the country adding that only 45 of them actually committed such offences.

Hundeyin noted that the remaining three were only unlucky to have fallen victims of such deportation.

The NIS disclose the information to the...
Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. NIS deputy comptroller general in charge of investigation and intelligence, T.A. Hundeyin, while appearing before the committee, dismissed the insinuation that the United Kingdom had perfected plans to deport 29,000 Nigerians.

It will be recalled that on Wednesday, November 25, the UK government clarified that it deported only 48 Nigerians.

The clarifications was sent to dismiss contrary report that about 500 Nigerians were deported by the United Kingdom to Nigeria on the same day.

The briefing was the fallout of a motion by Senator Rose Oko (Cross River North) last week, during which she raised an alarm over an alleged plan by the government of the United Kingdom to deport many Nigerians.

The Senate consequently mandated its foreign affairs committee to investigate the allegation and report its findings back to the Parliament.

Oko argued that if deportation of Nigerians became imminent, then, due process must be followed.
